Beijing olympic fakery.

I found an article outlining accusations, responses, and analysis of the fakery produced by Beijing and NBC’s coverage. This, to me, underscores the fact that the “mainstream” media outlets cannot be trusted. They actually added pre-recorded and CGI fireworks to the olympic opening ceremony. They also admittedly leave the “Live” stamp on the screen for the west coast viewers who are watching delays of two to three hours. Their claim is that knowledgeable viewers understand that there is a delay. It’s obvious that they are trying to add a sense of urgency and excitement that one is watching something live in order to boost the ratings. The offense with the openning ceremony and the fake fireworks is even worse. It’s bad enough that we are in a communist nation for the olympic games, but to add to the production and spectacle complicit with Beijing is even more sickening. How can anything they do or report be trusted? NBC should be ashamed.

  1. That is funny about the fireworks…very interesting. As far as the “live” stamp goes, I just figured it was either that they were too lazy to take it off, or that they were saying it was a live recording – to second takes or redos. Those were just my thoughts – especially sense China has got to be about 15 or 16 hours ahead of us.

  2. I just think the whole faking the opening ceremony stuff is stupid. Between that, the really poor air quality I saw during the skulling the other day, and the crap conditions of some of the soccer fields I’ve seen, I’m not impressed so far.

I’ve always had a “pure” feeling about the Olympics. Perhaps I’m a bit too idealistic, but the thought of the Olympics and watching the competitions always gave me sort of a “nostalgia-in-process” feeling knowing that history was being made every day and the stuff mentioned above just gives me a tainted feeling about these games.

Media in general should never be fully trusted. Faking images is an all-time low even for NBC.

  4. Just wanted to point out that the fireworks weren’t fake, there were actual footprint fireworks leading up to the stadium. What they showed on TV had to be CGI because there was no way to capture all the 29 footprints in the sky with a helicopter.

On Youtube there are videos of the firework footprints
