Wednesday Quotable

Benjamin Franklin was one of the great figures of American history.  He was not a supporter of democracy in its purest form, but he did support a representative style of democracy.  You elect leaders, they lead.  This is the form of government we have today, though we are more democratic than he envisioned on many levels.  His quotes on freedom and liberty still hold water today.

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

Here is another great quote by Franklin:

This will be the best security for maintaining our liberties. A nation of well-informed men who have been taught to know and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. It is in the religion of ignorance that tyranny begins.
