Thought Salad

-Marcela is going to Idaho and Wyoming for almost 3 weeks to see her mom and dad. I will be “baching it” for that period.

-I foresee a couple fishing trips in my future. I believe I will be heading out to either Islamorada or Boynton Beach Monday morning.

-If all goes well, I will have a mess of snapper and grouper, or I will have some dolphin, wahoo, and kingfish.

-Fresno State became the first regional 4 seed to win the CWS ever. That is about the same as a 16 seed in the NCAA basketball tourney winning the championship. They are a true Cinderella story; they almost missed the tournament completely and made great comebacks in the regional, super regional, and CWS.

-Fresno St also hit the cover off the ball. They may have set a record for most homeruns in the CWS.

-Two nights ago, my mom and dad joined Marcela and me for fresh dolphin tacos. Marcela and I drove out to Robert is Here and another local fruit stand to get some fresh tomatoes, jalapeños, cilantro, tomatos, and avocados for the tacos and some mangos to go on the side. We had a blast.

-I don’t what the deal is, but those jals were some of the hottest I have ever had. I actually had to ask Marcela to remove the seeds and membrane for the salsa to cool it down a little.

-My mom and dad made banana icecream that night, too. It was great! We had quite a bit leftover but it’s all gone now.

-We played the Wii for a while after dinner and had a great time. My mom beat my dad in one of the shooting games, but my dad’s pretty good.

-I will be at church alone Sunday. Music should be fun, but I will miss Marcela.

-Something is going on with my internet connection at home. I thing that it is either my DSL modem or my wireless router. The connection just resets every 10 minutes or so.

-The interruptions are not noticeable unless I am playing my Wii online. It boots me out of the game. Just before I kill somebody on Medal of Honor 2.

-Blog traffic has been spiking and dropping just about every other day. It looks like a stock ticker with peaks and valleys. Based on the web search traffic, I assume it is going to take off very soon.

-This blog started at the request of Travis who has been pushing the blogging concept as long as he has been down here in Homestead (from what I can remember).

-I can’t wait to attend the Life Pointe Web 2.0 Seminar this Sunday afternoon. I’m going to call and reserve my spot this morning if there is anything available. I think Chris is going to be there and hopefully Bill, too.

-Maybe we can get Chris to start twittering, too.

Sunny Side Up Thoughts

  • It’s raining, it’s pouring!  I love it when it rains at work.  It cools down the power block considerably.
  • The 08 Miami Hurricanes Baseball squad has to go down in our history as a big disappointment.  I am a big fan, but I have to admit with this much talent we should have gone further.  The two teams who beat us were not supposed to go as far as they did.  The Canes had the most talent, the most high draft choices, most wins, and fewest losses in the country.
  • I had a great time fishing in Boynton Beach on Monday.  Read about my first kingfish.
  • I wouldn’t mind heading back up there, but we need 5 people on the boat to make it really cheap.
  • I found myself rooting for a team in the finals that I don’t like (the Celtics) because they were playing a team that I like even less (I hate the Lakers).
  • Why are there so many Super Hero movies out these days?  Spiderman, Batman, Superman, X Men, The Hulk, Ironman, and the list goes on and on!  Is it because people need something to believe in but they are avoiding God?
  • The doldrums of the sports world are officially here.  The NBA finals are the last ray of sunshine before the reality of the bleak sports winter sets in.  Sometimes we have the CWS to look to, but the Canes screwed that one up.  There will be nothing exciting going on until the college football season kicks off.
  • I will be working this weekend, so I won’t be at church.  That is one of the bummers of working where I do.  Working night shift allows me to be at church every week, but working days lets me spend the whole Sunday that I am at church fully awake.
  • Blog traffic has been up bigtime over the past week.  I am going to post my State of the Blog Address shortly.
  • I believe it is going to level off and die back again now that the NBA finals are finished.  You won’t believe how many hits my post about Red Auerbach vs Phil Jackson brought in.
  • It’s cool to see how many people from LPC are joining the Blogosphere.  Especially Billy-barue.
  • I’m going to try and attend the Life Pointe 2.0 Seminar.  Great idea Trav!
  • Last night was my first night at Paul’s life group.  We had a great time talking about loving God and loving each other.  Joey facilitated and did a great job, although we didn’t quite have enough time to finish.  The meatballs were good too.
  • Marcela said she will be presenting the Talk Soup this weekend.  I am looking forward to that.

Miami will have revenge!

We have eliminated FSU, and UGA is next up if Stanford can go ahead and finish them off. Miami will get their revenge against the lucky Bulldogs.

CWS: Miami and FSU are leading the way

I disagree with the premise of this article.  But I do find it interesting that the Canes and the Noles are back where we belong, competing for national glory in a major sport.  Conferences do not win championships.  Teams win championships.  I have no conference pride because I don’t really care about any teams other than the Hurricanes.  I get sick of conference arguments because they are usually just crutches to prop up a person’s under performing team.

Miami Hurricanes are the #1 overall seed and will start off against UGA in the opening round of the double elimination tournament.

CWS: The U is headed to Omaha

In case you haven’t seen or heard, the Canes are heading to Omaha for the College World Series for the 11th time out of 15 years. Behind some great defense and some good timely pitching, the Canes 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning were enough to win 4-2 in Game 3 of the Super Regionals against Arizona despite Arizona loading up the bases in the 8th.

After stranding a ton of guys and blowing game 1 to a very scrappy Arizona squad in 11 innings, the Canes came from 4 down in game 2 by hitting the cover off of the ball.

Who would have expected the Canes to win a game against Arizona 4-2? I think that 14-12 would have been a more likely score with Miami’s big hitters. Victor had tickets, and I think he was there. Maybe he can chime in with his report from the stands.
