Free Thoughts

-Thursday is the day I post my thoughts. It’s pretty simple, I just type whatever pops in my head.

-The shooting at Wal Mart yesterday was all the talk yesterday at work. Apparently an angry boyfriend walked into the garden center and shot his former girlfriend who had just taken out a restraining order against him. He then fled to his home where he shot himself.

-The stock market doesn’t seem to like the US move toward socialism. Our economy was sick under President Bush, Obama apparently wants to finish it off.

-Hurricane season is just around the corner. I think I am going to start getting my supplies together now. Be prepared!

-Only 2 months since football season has ended, and I am having withdrawals. I hate football offseason. The Dolphins and Canes have a lot to look forward to this year.

-We are going to be even more organized in this year’s fantasy football season.

-The major football related news right now is the boat with the NFL players and agent whose 21 foot boat capsized in the Gulf of Mexico in up to 15 foot seas. Friends of mine suggested that probably they plowed the nose of the boat into a large wave going too fast while rushing to get in, or they got sideways and were flipped by a big wave.

-Max had his little bit of masculinity removed this past Friday. It’s not bad enough that everybody mistakes him for a her, now he has been altered. Poor fella.

-My vacation cruise is exactly one month away from today. Snorkeling, hiking, and relaxing here we come.

-Marcela really hooked me up on Sunday. She made some excellent paella mixta with chicken, chorizo, octopus, little necks, muscles, shrimp, and scallops.

-I have said it before and I’ll say it again, I cannot wait for the TSP Anthems CD to be available.

-The work that Trav, the guys from TSP and the People for Care and Learning are doing for the people of Cambodia is God’s work. I’m so proud of them.

-I will see some of you this Sunday at the theater as we come together to worship, enjoy and learn from each other, be inspired, and be the church.

Wednesday Quotable

I’m pretty excited about the upcoming release of The Saturn Project‘s Anthems for a Broken World. This is seriously good music from normal guys with abnormally big dreams. These dreams are giving birth to a reality that will change the lives of a lot of people on the other side of the planet from me. With that as the back drop, I wanted to bring a quote which expresses my feelings on music.

Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.

Music Review: So Alive

At The Saturn Project’s Website I was able to get my free song, “So Alive” from the upcoming album entitled Anthems for a Broken World. Click the above link to get your free song. 100% of the proceeds from the sales of the full album will go to move families in Cambodia who are literally living in the dumps into their own homes, provide clean water, and a church for their community. The target is $500,000 raised through album sales. The album will cost $10 each for purchase, which is a bargain for this high quality music.

“So Alive” was previously recorded as a demo by Jesse Santoyo and his band The Saturn Project years ago. This studio version has a very mature sound. The best way to describe the style is energetic, groovy, and adult. The rich piano/string tones lay a foundation which enhance the smooth guitar rhythms. The vocals by Jesse are pleasant and energetic, with really spot on harmonies in the chorus and a bridge with a deep almost gritty vocal accompaniment. The rhythmic groove of this song is very creative. I was not expecting the arrangement to be so rhythmically complex with the snappy beat of the drums countering the groove of the keys, bass, and guitar. It works! This is a complex groove, but it’s not hard on the ears. It’s not annoyingly catchy, but I find myself humming the tune “I feel so alive” as I go about my daily business.

Great job TSP on a cool tune. I can’t wait to get my hands on the rest of the album.

Sunday Life Pointe Talk Soup

This one will be short since I am a little lazy today.

  • At 7:02 AM when I made it to the theater, there was already plenty of action in Pier 2.  Zech, Josiah, Ritz, Jesse, and Alex were there tooling around and setting up.
  • I am off caffeine for a while, so I had to fuel myself on decaf.  I didn’t really notice the difference today.
  • With the new holiday schedule, we have two services.  One is at 9:00 AM, and the second at 10:30 AM.
  • The music in the first service was a little off from a technical and aesthetic standpoint.  It’s cool how God can move in spite of our lack.
  • Mike was on the drums in the 9:00 and sang back up in the 10:30, Alex drummed in the 10:30, Jesse played the guitar in the second service only.  Josiah did an excellent job on the electric in both services, I played keys, Reina was on lead vocals, and Julie and I covered the back up vocals.
  • We sang “Every Day”, “We Are Hungry”, “I Could Sing of Your Love Forever”, and Julie led “Shout to the Lord” for communion.
  • In the service, Travis went into details of LPC’s plan to raise $500,000 for global missions including a project in Cambodia through “Anthems for a Broken World”, an album by The Saturn Project.  There is a possibility of $20,000 in matching funds to be donated for the project.
  • The albums will be sold in bundles at churches, schools, and organizations and 100% of the proceeds will go to global missions.

For another perspective on the goings on at Life Pointe throughout the day, be sure to visit our many capable LPC bloggers.  As of now, only Chris has posted his Sunday Morning Tossed Salad.
