Thought Salad

-Marcela is going to Idaho and Wyoming for almost 3 weeks to see her mom and dad. I will be “baching it” for that period.

-I foresee a couple fishing trips in my future. I believe I will be heading out to either Islamorada or Boynton Beach Monday morning.

-If all goes well, I will have a mess of snapper and grouper, or I will have some dolphin, wahoo, and kingfish.

-Fresno State became the first regional 4 seed to win the CWS ever. That is about the same as a 16 seed in the NCAA basketball tourney winning the championship. They are a true Cinderella story; they almost missed the tournament completely and made great comebacks in the regional, super regional, and CWS.

-Fresno St also hit the cover off the ball. They may have set a record for most homeruns in the CWS.

-Two nights ago, my mom and dad joined Marcela and me for fresh dolphin tacos. Marcela and I drove out to Robert is Here and another local fruit stand to get some fresh tomatoes, jalapeños, cilantro, tomatos, and avocados for the tacos and some mangos to go on the side. We had a blast.

-I don’t what the deal is, but those jals were some of the hottest I have ever had. I actually had to ask Marcela to remove the seeds and membrane for the salsa to cool it down a little.

-My mom and dad made banana icecream that night, too. It was great! We had quite a bit leftover but it’s all gone now.

-We played the Wii for a while after dinner and had a great time. My mom beat my dad in one of the shooting games, but my dad’s pretty good.

-I will be at church alone Sunday. Music should be fun, but I will miss Marcela.

-Something is going on with my internet connection at home. I thing that it is either my DSL modem or my wireless router. The connection just resets every 10 minutes or so.

-The interruptions are not noticeable unless I am playing my Wii online. It boots me out of the game. Just before I kill somebody on Medal of Honor 2.

-Blog traffic has been spiking and dropping just about every other day. It looks like a stock ticker with peaks and valleys. Based on the web search traffic, I assume it is going to take off very soon.

-This blog started at the request of Travis who has been pushing the blogging concept as long as he has been down here in Homestead (from what I can remember).

-I can’t wait to attend the Life Pointe Web 2.0 Seminar this Sunday afternoon. I’m going to call and reserve my spot this morning if there is anything available. I think Chris is going to be there and hopefully Bill, too.

-Maybe we can get Chris to start twittering, too.

Wii Wii mon parénts

Last night, I helped my mom set up her game system. It reminded me of the year we got a computer/game system for the house at Christmas and my parents would play games too. My mom and dad competed against each other for VG superiority in shooting, pool, lazer hockey, ping pong, and various other games on the Wii Play disk. I can see that Marcela and I will have some competition on the Mario Kart once my mom and dad get up to speed.

Thoughts Over Medium

  • Once again I find myself eating breakfast at Marios.
  • Nearly each Saturday off, Marcela and I come to Marios for café con leche y tostada. That’s (Cuban) coffee with milk and toast for anybody that’s curious.
  • I have been lucky enough to have café con leche, tostada, bacón, y juevos fritos with my mom the last couple days that I’ve been off.
  • Today was Marcela’s last day of school with the kids, and tomorrow is her last day at work for the Summer.
  • Hurricane season 2008 has officially begun and I still haven’t stocked up on all my supplies. Fortunately, I have most of the supplies I need already.
  • The heat at work is no longer a major concern for me since I bought Rubbermaid® blue ice blankets to place in the plate pouches in my vest. I was chillin in one of the hottest places at the plant yesterday while everyone else was suffering.
  • I got a good scare yesterday at work when I saw a bright flash and heard a loud boom. It turned out to be a fire in the switch yard at the fossil side of the power plant.
  • Tonight is the first night of the NBA finals and they are really playing up the return of the “greatest rivalry in the NBA”. The images of Chamberlain/Russel and Johnson/Bird are all over ABC.
  • The ESPN staff are leaning toward LA in this series. It should be a good one.
  • LPC has a Twitter account. Follow LPC and follow me!
  • Even Jesse is now twittering.  You can follow him too.
  • Somehow, Pastor Trav is going to incorporate Twitter into the Sunday morning services. That means if you are not Twittering, you aren’t “cool like that” Chris. LOL
  • My poor little lovebird is still sitting on her eggs. She must have no clue that they will never hatch.
  • I was playing around with the microKorg today and I realized just how cool that thing is. I have to find the manual because it’s as complicated as it is cool.
  • Jesse informed me of his plans for this weekend’s music at Church. I am so ticked that I have to work and I won’t be able to participate.
  • There are quite a few people at my job site who believe in aliens. They were talking yesterday and actually theorized that aliens are super-evolved humans who had left and have come back to either harvest or study us. I know I annoyed them because I started talking about 2001: A Space Odyssey and the new Indiana Jones movie.
  • Jesse got a kick out of this stuff. I gotta say that it makes good late night radio talk show fodder, but I am waiting for some mainstream independent verification.
  • The Wii continues to entertain Marcela and me. I have some online competition in Mario Kart coming up soon. But my mom hasn’t even learned to play yet.
  • Is Hillary about to concede? Is she going to be Obama’s running mate?
  • Some of the things I look forward to with an Obama presidency: Higher taxes, higher gas prices, more government intrusion with regards to energy consumption, more spending on entitlement programs, and socialized medicine.
  • Somebody or some company out there can come up with a solution to the energy crisis. The left wing (Democrats) tends to think the way out of our energy crisis is to punish the companies that are profiting. Forget the American way which is that necessity is the mother of all innovation.
  • Call me Commissioner Phil. I am going to create a yahoo fantasy football league as soon as they open up. If you are interested in joining, email me at “thecitizencane-at-yahoo-dot-com”. Go ahead and register for a yahoo account at Yahoo.com Pastor Travis thinks he is going to win, so all you football gurus out there better get ready. Also be sure you have thick skin, because the trash talk gets pretty heavy.

Basketful of Thoughts

-I’ve been reflecting on my time as a case manager with CHARLEE and considered whether I should write out some of my memories and experiences in what was one of the toughest and rewarding jobs I have had.

-Case Managers for DCF and the private agencies that care for abused, abandoned, and neglected children are some of the kindest, most caring, and under paid people in FL.

-If you could have seen and experienced some of the things that I did while at CHARLEE you would probably feel the same way.

-Marcela claims she is not going to play Mario Kart ever again because it cheats against her. I told her she should quit using the steering wheel and start using the nun chuck.

-I was going to purchase 2 more Wii remotes and 2 nun chucks, but then I changed my mind when I saw that each remote is $40 and each nun chuck is $20. Wow!

-My little cinnamon peach faced love bird has been acting extremely territorial of her cage for the past few weeks. Last night when I got home, I saw why. She laid 3 little lovebird eggs.

-Does anyone want a cinnamon peach faced lovebird? She’s really cute and she can make breakfast for a Liliputian.

-I can’t wait to be back in church this week. Missing church every other week is the one downer to day shift.

-I got a recognition at work today along with $14 in cafeteria certificates for reporting a safety concern that everyone else in security has been reporting for over a year. I guess I just talked to the right person.

-Several guys at work said I need to buy everyone lunch since I was the lucky winner for reporting something that everyone else reported before.

-Only about 2 weeks are left until “The Happening” and “Incredible Hulk” come out. I’m going to see those. Anyone want to come?

-I’m trying to get a fishing trip together for Monday. I hope the weather calms down. 8 foot waves can be really good for the natural chum (barf) but it isn’t really that much fun.

-San Antonio is about to get finished off. After losing at home a couple nights ago in a game that they blew again, they are down 3-1. This series could just as easily have been 3-1 with SA up. I don’t believe they can recover from the latest heart breaking loss. They need two road wins and a home win to stay alive. That’s probably not going to happen since LA has not even lost at home in the entire playoffs.

-Boston only needs to hold serve with 2 games remaining to finish off Detroit. They are now up 3-2 with one home and one away game left. The Pistons came up a couple points short last night having come from 14 points back in the 4th quarter.

Wii Wii Wii!

Mario Kart has become an addiction for Marcela.  She spent 3 hours playing the Wii by herself last night when she was supposed to be grading. 🙂  Tonight, when I got home from the Miami Seaquarium with Trav, Kelly, and the little munchkins, Marcela and I played for another 2 hours.  She’s getting pretty good and even beat me a couple times.  Don’t tell her this, but I didn’t let her. She actually did it on her own.

Hard Boiled Thoughts

-It’s been extremely hot lately.
-A new piece of equipment has been added to my required list of items I wear already weighing 30+ pounds.
-The few extra pounds wouldn’t be so bad if it were not a vest that retains heat and moisture. Some of the spots in the power block where I patrolat the plant easily reach into the mid 100’s to 110 degrees. I have been drinking water like a camel lately.
-Weeeeeeeeee! The Wii is so much fun.
-Marcela and I have systematically been going through and playing the games that came with our new game system. So far we have played lazer hockey, fishing, target shooting, a tank game, bowling, boxing, tennis, baseball, golf, and Mario Kart.
-I still have to open Spiderman, Banana Balls (or something like that), Game Party, and Sonic.
-I plan on having a Wii night with as many people as I can fit in the house. I guess I better ask Marcela about that first. 🙂
-Hillary continues to win big in the “battleground states”. Obama continues to win in the states that Democrats have either not at all been competitive or already have locked up. To me, that’s not a good sign for the Democrats.
-If the Democrats want to put up their best candidate, they should choose the person who is most popular in those necessary “battleground states” like FL, Ohio, West Va, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Colorado, etc.
-The Spurs had what it took to win on the road against the Hornets, but the Lakers took the win out of their sails coming from 20 back with only 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.
-When you have a 20 point lead in a road game against a quality team like LA you shouldn’t squander that chance.
-Let’s see what Detroit has against Boston, now.

Thoughts Benedict

And now for some personal venting… brace yourself.

  1. “Sick” is going around bigtime in the Johnson kingdom.  I was diagnosed two days ago with sinusitis and was given antibiotics.  I have had it since Friday when I went to my job’s site medical to get some cold medicine.  I had fever, chills, headache, body ache, and sore throat.  I stuck it out at work though, but it turned out to NOT be a cold.  I also had pink eye (which is now cured thanks to my sulfur eye drops.
  2. Marcela was diagnosed with the same sinusitis a couple weeks ago, and then she got sick in her digestive system the day before yesterday.  She has been coughing hardcore for the past two weeks.  The cough that we now both have is driving us both NUTS.  I feel like I am going insane.  😦  My little Marcela said the same thing.  Prescription cough medicine is doing very little to help.
  3. Whatever stomach problem she had, I now have.  I went to work this morning at 5 AM, and left fatigued due to coughing all night and doing other things all night.  I RARELY miss work.  I can endure a cold, but stomach problems really get me.
  4. I went to bed at 9:30 PM and when I got out of bed at 4 AM, my dinner from the night before was still in my throat.  I have been asleep all day trying to let it go. Thank you Lord, I am feeling quite a bit better right now.
  5. Kelly and Kourtney were sick all day Tuesday, and now McKenna is sick with the same stomach problems. My dad called out of work today with stomach problems, and I just found that out when my mom (who is also sick with the stomach problems) came by my house to bring me Emetrol.  WHAT’S GOING ON?!?!

Now that I have that off my chest I can get on to my thoughts…

  • 2 major disasters have struck Asia in the last week.
  1. Between 100,000 and 250,000 are dead in Burma due to a cyclone and flooding, with more death on its way due to the communist/military regime that will not allow outsiders in to help.
  2. China’s Sichuan Province was hit with a magnitude 7.9 earthquake and more than 15,000 are already dead.  Government officials (who are only a little more open than the Burmese Junta) estimate that about 20,000 more are buried under the ruins of their homes, schools, and businesses.  I have seen some of the video of the actual earthquake and it is unbelievable.  The pictures and videos of the rescue and recovery are heartbreaking.  Lord help them.
  • Breakfast with Trav and Chris on Tuesday was great.  We talked about blogging and expand our internet empires.  Chris is trying to say that he is subsidizing my web traffic with his blog.  LOL I still can’t get him to enter the Twitter world yet, but I am working on it.  But I did get some hints on how to increase traffic.  I found out that Saturday is usually the slowest traffic day for Trav and Chris.  I guess due to my top 5 it is a little bit of a boost for my Saturdays.
  • I just bought a Wii entertainment system, and it was delivered today.  Unfortunately, I am too sick to even open it up.  But if anyone is interested in getting a beat down in boxing, or whipped in tennis, or something like that, let me know and we will arrange for it to happen.  This weekend I will open the box and set it up.
  • I’m going to get my stuff together and go to the production and music meeting today at the church office. If you are there, forgive me in advance for looking like garbage.
